Buyer requested delayed shipping

Question

My buyer requested a delayed shipping due to her travel (delay by 10 days). I said "sure" but now am struggling on how is the best way to proceed. If I mark "shipped" I don't think I can go back and buy shipping label from ebay. If I go on usps myself and buy label in 10 days, looks like I'll be paying $3-5 more dollars than if bought through ebay. I'm regretting my "sure!" answer. I sell about 4-8 items a month so not high on experience level.

Thank you both! I am going to go with buy the label in 10 days and appeal any defect with a screen shot of the request for a delay in shipping. BUT in the future I will not reply "sure!" but instead say "I must ship within the stated handling time". The devil is in the details and No good deed goes unpunished.... 😉

Buy the label on ebay in 10 days. You will receive a defect for slow shipping, but if this is your first one, it probably will not affect your seller metrics all that much.

Advise the buyer that you MUST ship within your stated handling time or you get a defect on your shipping metrics. Marking it as shipped will NOT protect you from a late shipping defect. You need the tracking scanned by the post office within your stated handling time.

You can offer the buyer one of these two options... I usually only offer option #1

#1 Advise the buyer that because you have ship within your stated handling time that they will need to ask the post office to hold their mail. This is what I do when I am out of town. It's easy to set up on the post office website.

#2 Cancel the sale as buyer requested, refund the buyer, relist when they return so that can buy the item again. This can be a burden to the seller if the item is expensive due to the way that refunds work.

HOW REFUNDS WORK>>
Refunds, even for order cancellations, come out of your available funds not pending or held. If you do not have available funds then eBay charges your back up payment method for selling costs.

Have you entered your backup payment method for selling costs here: https://ppcapp.ebay.com/myppc/wallet/list Select Manage under the method you want to use then select Preferred for selling costs. I use a credit card.

Once you issue the refund and the buyers funds are released from being held or finish processing then the buyers payment is released to you.
