Buyer request cancellation and eBay is showing it will cost me $900 to cancel

So Buyer makes an offer on three items at $1750 apiece. I accept. He then pays for them while setting up shipping. He asked for a picture of the hours on each unit I sent to him three different unit units three different hours 6K 10K 14K nothing about hours on the listing. He request cancellation. I really don’t have a problem with that except eBay paid me $4400. That they will be charging me back $5300. Is this correct? What can I do because I’m not going to cancel if it’s gonna cost me $900.

We realize all the numbers & replies may be confusing -
the difference between what you received $4493.05 and what eBay is charging you $5291.58 is the "Ad Fee General" for $798.53.
It's legitimate, and will be credited back to you/your account once the cancellation has been completed, as explained by @inceptions - "Fees may be credited sometime between a few minutes up to a few days after the cancellation."
eBay will need to still take the remaining $amount over $5000 to complete the cancellation though. Then the Ad Fee General will be credited back to you.
You shouldn't need to speak with an agent about this.

OPJul 18, 2026 at 2:46 PMSo I went thru the can cancellation process and thank god my bank cuts my debit card at a$5,000 per day because ebay tried to charge me 5291.58 and no shipping label was purchased yet because the items were large and I was looking for the best way to ship. And as I showed earlier, I received $4,493.05. I can't get a live human being to explain this to me and I don't know what to do at this point.

There's an Ad fee of $798.53 that doesn't appear to be credited in the snips you posted?

I find the way eBay displays this information confusing too, but the Ad Fee General is credited after the cancellation is processed. Fees may be credited sometime between a few minutes up to a few days after the cancellation.

I'm not familiar with Ad promos & fees and what is refundable, although it would seem a buyer requested cancel shouldn't cost you. That's why I'm asking for assistance here - they may be offline right now.

If $5300 is what the buyer paid, the $900 difference is likely the Seller fees eBay took on the original orders (which I cannot find on this ID). They will credit you back for their fees when it's cancelled, so it should be a wash.
Look in your Transaction details for what the $fees amount are:

You're not charged for cancelling an order. When you cancel an order, eBay refunds the buyer in full and credits your account for the fees they already deducted from the payment.
