Buyer Refunded but Item Not Returned—Need Advice

Hi everyone, I desperately need advice/help. The buyer requested a return after finding the item cheaper elsewhere and asked us for a return label. I made a serious mistake by refusing because I misunderstood our return policy and thought we only had to pay return shipping for defective or incorrect items.
eBay then refunded the buyer $2,078.28 without requiring the item to be returned. I fully acknowledge my mistake, but losing both the payment and such an expensive item is devastating. We are now willing to pay for the freight pickup, but the buyer is no longer responding.
Please, has anyone experienced this? Is there anything we can do to recover our merchandise?

Your listings show Free returns so yes, that is a mistake and unfortunately unless you arrange for a local shipping service to pick the item up with the Buyer cooperating then you are out of luck. eBay will not help, they can't force the Buyer to do anything, they are a 3rd party on the outside looking in.
