Buyer refunded before item was delivered

Question

Buyer received a refund before item arrived. Now I'm out $30 and no product. Not cool eBay. And getting my money back requires multiple jumps through hoops when the buyer simply got a refund while item was in transit. Yes, it was mailed out late, but they still received it. This will be my last eBay transaction.

So the Buyer filed a claim that they did not receive their item and you refunded them during the claim period right? Did you upload tracking from the eBay transaction to the claim? Did you print your label through eBay? Did you message the Buyer when you knew you were shipping late?

It sounds like you did not ship within your Handling time. eBay launched a new Seller protection late last year for this type of situation providing certain criteria is met by the Seller.

If the following criteria is met eBay will reimburse you if the package is eventually delivered after you have refunded a Buyer through an eBay claim that they did not receive their package AND delivery is confirmed through tracking on eBay. eBay launched this new Seller protection in late 2025.

Seller prints the shipping label through eBay
Seller ships and gets a carrier scan within their Handling time
Buyer files a claim through eBay that they did not receive their package AND the Seller refunds the Buyer through the eBay claim
The package is delivered later and after the Buyer has been refunded, eBay tracking confirms the delivery
