Buyer refunded an item, wants it returned a month later
Summary: navigator419 bought an electronic item that was not as described and received a full refund from the seller after the item failed to function properly. Despite repeated requests, the seller never sent the return shipping label. A month later, the seller is now demanding the item's return, but navigator419 has already paid for repairs. navigator419 is seeking advice on their obligations and options in this situation.
I bought an item from a buyer a month ago, and when it arrived it did not function as described in the posting.
It was a piece of electronic equipment, and it wouldn't power on consistently even though it was described in the listing as "Used...fully operational and functions as intended."
When I messaged the buyer about it, they admitted as much, and issued me a full refund. A return mailing label never came to my inbox or in the "Return Details" options (I guess they "issued" rather than "initiated" a full refund which would have prompted a return label for me to print). I messaged them twice afterwords to request a shipping label so I could return the item. Both times they said they would send one, but never did.
Now, a month later, they're demanding that I return the item to them. In the meantime, I've taken it into a repair shop to get fixed at my own expense. What are my obligations and options here?
Thank you.

Mentor1 month agoIf the seller refunded you, they cannot issue a return shipping label through Ebay.
You are not obligated to return the item.
