Buyer received wrong item (my fault as seller)
We had a mix up and a buyer received the wrong item. I have a replacement item to send, but how do I handle the buyer returning the wrong item? If they do a return, that makes the replacement shipping difficult.
I would like to just send them the correct item and get my wrong item back ($100 value).
Suggestions on how to proceed?

Sorry that happened. I think all sellers have made the wrong label mistake when they started selling. I did ONCE.... then I started writing the buyers names on the boxes and the names of the items.
The best way to handle this is to follow eBay policy.
Buyer opens a return refund request> wrong item sent> you approve the return shipping label> you get the item back> refund the buyer. Then relist the item so that it can be purchased again.
If you try do a return a without a refund the buyer could end getting a refund AND replacement item for free, so be sure to follow my steps.

OP2 years agoThank you for the tips, I’ll take your advice and proceed within the guidelines. I feel bad for the buyer, but I agree this is the best option despite the increased hassle for them.
I also like your suggestion on the shipping; we sell so many varied items that other mistakes are bound to happen without a SOP as you note.
cheers,
Peter
