Buyer Opened Authenticity Claim 6 Months After Sale — eBay Says LV Bag Is “Unverified”

I am the seller of a Louis Vuitton Speedy 25. The buyer purchased it on 2/2026 and opened a counterfeit/authenticity issue approximately six months after the transaction (8/20/26). The item has apparently been sent to an eBay authentication facility and the status now says 'Authenticity — Unverified' and that the item is being returned to me. I need to understand why this return was authorized outside the original return period and what eBay would do in this instance. I also want to know whether the item was authenticated when it was originally sold. I mailed it directly to the buyer who indicated in their email to me that they determined the bag was "too big for them" and wanted to resell it only to find out that the bag was not authentic. For the record the bag is authentic.

1) If you shipped directly to the buyer, your item wasn't authenticated when originally sold.
2) Where are you seeing an open return? eBay doesn't allow returns to be opened after 30 days.

OP3 weeks agoNow that I'm re-reading the buyer's message, they told me that they tried to resell the bag and this may be what they received from ebay when they sent it through the authentication process. If that is the case, is the seller entitled to a refund from me 6 months later?

Mentor3 weeks agoI am not sure how the buyer could open any kind of case after six months. eBay's Money Back Guaranty is only good for 30 days from receipt of the item and no case can be opened after 90 days. Did the buyer open a case or did they just contact you about this?

OP2 weeks agoThe buyer just sent me the screenshots above saying that the bag didn't pass the auhentication process. There is not case number or other further. I did reply to the buyer saying I was sorry they were disappointed in the bag and that I would work with eBay on the matter. No further communication from the buyer since. I'll let it sit for now.

There are several reasons an authentic bag won't pass authenticity - mainly dealing with how the seller described the condition.
If the seller described it as clean, but there is speck of dust or a pen spot for instance.
It didn't pass inspection.. we don't know why.
Don't worry about it now.
