Buyer is scamming us. claiming we sent them something we did not.
Summary: classictoyspaper is dealing with a situation where a buyer claims to have received a damaged item, but evidence suggests otherwise. They suspect the buyer is attempting to return a different damaged item. stuff4divas suggests ensuring the buyer cannot keep the item for a refund and to report the issue if the wrong item is returned, potentially deducting from the refund if the item is not as sent. classictoyspaper is considering simply refunding and blocking the buyer due to the low value involved.
buyer is claiming we sent them a damaged item. when i looked at the original photos, items has zero damage to the area they are claiming there is damage. i requested photos. they send photos of an item that has damage that i have never seen. the original item has a black pen mark inside lining base of neck that does not appear in the photos of the "damaged item" they sent. which proves to me that not only have i ever seen the damage but the black mark is missing. it appears they are trying to exchange their own damaged item for my newer item AND get their money back. whats the best way to handle this situation?? i am tempted to retund them and block them and just move on. its only about $30 in total. any suggestions would be great!

Mentor3 weeks agoAccept the return and do not refund until you get the item back.
In the mean time tell buyer that you're sorry but that is not the item you sent and to check with family members before you open a case with the postal authorities and local police for mail tampering, if he did indeed get a switched item from the carrier. Also request that he please cooperate with the investigation.
The above often results in the problem going away. Otherwise, if you do get the item back and it's the wrong one.
Wait till the last day to refund and if your are still forced to refund:
REPORT the buyer for abuse of the ebay MBG.

Then appeal the refund:

Mentor3 weeks ago@classictoyspaper what i would do> out of principle only, i would not allow them to keep the item. even if they send back the wrong item, at least they would have to put in some work to get the refund.
when u receive 'whatever' back, report them, and message them that they sent you the wrong item, even tho they will deny it, or ignore it.
do u offer free returns? is so, u can deduct up to 50% of the purchase price if u don't receive the same item back and in the same condition as sent.
Good Luck!
