Buyer got a completely different item than the one I sent. How do I advise them on what to do?
The buyer is international. I purchased my mailing label via eBay, and it shipped the next day. It went to the eBay Illinois hub. From there, it said it was processed, shipped to Sydney, then Melbourne, and finally to the buyer's address. The tracking showed it was delivered (Australia) on Jan 3rd. The buyer sent me images of the package and the item inside. The package was not the one I sent (this one was blue - mine was black), nor the product (this was a shirt, not a stuffed animal - I wrapped it in purple tissue), nor the address on the package (which was handwritten from San Jose, CA). I print my labels via eBay. I have searched eBay's site on how to advise the buyer. I don't know whether I should file a claim or if the buyer should. And then who do we let know about the mix-up? This is a hobby for me, not a business, and I am not familiar with all the steps.

The buyer should open a return request for an item not as described.
eBay will step in and handle the refund. You won't need to handle the refund if you shipped eBay International Shipping.
