Buyer Fraud
I sold an iPhone on eBay. One that I know to be working perfectly! The buyer receives it and tells me that it’s not working perfectly and wants a partial refund so they can have it fixed themselves. Which I immediately accommodate. The buyer then says he doesn’t like it and he wants to return it. Once again, I accommodate them immediately and I authorize a return. He sends me my return and it is not even the same product as I sent him. Now I’m stuck with not only reimbursing him all the money, but Im also stuck paying $49 in fees to eBay. If I got scammed by this buyer, that’s one thing, but why does eBay forced me to pay eBay the fees when they’re the ones who helped get me screwed by the scammer?

You really should have read the terms of ebay's Money Back Guarantee. Scams involving phones are common on both sides of the coin. Since you did not add a photo of your phone's serial number with one or two numbers blacked out or covered or entering it w/out a character or two to the item specifics, you have no proof that the one returned to you, was not what you sent.
Even if you report the buyer I doubt ebay will do anything about it without proof.

About all you can try to do to the scammer, is message and tell them you have the original bill of sale for the phone you sent with its serial number, and that if they do not send it back asap that you will be filing a Federal postal fraud case with the USPS postal inspectors and you have their location info. That may scare them into returning the phone.

OP7 months agothank you for your answer! I do have the serial number of the iPhone on file. However, it wasn’t even a phone that was sent back to me with some type of automotive sensor. The buyer just threw something in a box that was a similar size to full the postmaster.

OP7 months agoThe major problem is, that I didn’t even receive an iPhone back. I received some kind of automotive sensor. Smaller than a phone about the same weight that was thrown into a box and sent back to me. I didn’t even receive an iPhone back. And no one at eBay will discuss with me.

Mentor7 months agoI would suggest contacting customer service through social media. These reps are more experienced than the phone reps and may be able to help you;
You can contact customer service by sending a private message on social media. Your message should contain your full name, user ID and a brief explanation of your problem. You can use “X†(x.com/askebay) or Facebook (facebook.com/ebay). The reps will need to verify your account and then will contact you for additional details.

OP4 months agoI thank you for this! I did make mention that I did try to fight it and there was no phone that I received (with or without an ESN). Again, I didn’t even receive a phone back. I received some kind of automotive sensor about the same size and weight as a phone! I had pictures of my phone that I sold and it’s ESN but I didn’t even receive a phone back. I sent pictures of what I did receive and they basically said tough luck that the buyer said he sent my phone back. So just here’s word against mine! That really **bleep** me off since I was the one telling the truth! I’m sure eBay has no way of fighting this either way, so that’s why they just go with the FIRST gut instinct and they’re done with it!
