Buyer doesn't pay for local pickup
This happened to me twice recently for items I was trying to sell locally. I held auctions on the items, and on both items out-of-state buyers placed bids. I live in Washington state, and one of the buyers was in Maryland and the other in Texas, so there was zero chance they were coming over to pick up the items.
So they placed bids, won the auction, then refused to pay. I offered the item to the loser of the auction, but they did not respond. I had to cancel the sale of both items.
I think eBay needs to improve its local pickup sales process:
1) Only people within some radius of me can bid.
2) Allow me to see the city where the bidder lives. As it is right now, I can only see they are in the US. I don't see their actual address until they win the auction. If I see they live far away, then I can choose to delete their bid.
3) eBay should fine these kind of abusers of the system. How about 50% of their bid, with half going to the seller and half to eBay?
