Buyer did not return all items
Summary: cwarnersd1212 started a discussion about a buyer who did not return all items after a transaction. comics-scifi-collectibles responded, and they exchanged several replies to address the issue, although no specific details were provided in the discussion text.
Hello,
I am getting nowhere with an issue & hoping that someone can assist.
It seems that I am not being supported or protected by eBay as a seller.
I do not understand how a buyer is allowed to get away with theft.
I do not understand how a buyer is allowed to get away with theft.
ALSO, THIS BUYER IS UNDERAGE (16 years old)!!!!!!!
The situation:
I sold a bundle of four items. One of the items was defective.
I offered the buyer a refund and to send the four items back to me.
I only received two of the four items back from the buyer.
The buyer, through eBay messaging, agreed to a partial refund.
$30 to be taken off the refund.
I reached out to eBay because I was unable to give a partial refund to the buyer.
The eBay representative was unable to change the refund amount.
I explained that I was concerned about the automatic refund that would occur in two days.
I was assured that the automatic refund would be placed on hold & the eBay representative would contact someone to handle the partial refund.
I followed up the next day with eBay. They did not have any information regarding the partial refund.
I explained again about my concern of the automatic refund. Again, I was assured that the automatic refund would not be processed.
The automatic refund occured.
I called eBay again. I received an email from eBay recommending to ask the buyer to pay me the $30 via PayPal.
I messaged the buyer through eBay to please send the $30 via PayPal.
I sent a request through PayPal to the buyer for the $30.
I have messaged the buyer multiple times & have never heard back from them.
Each time I reached out to eBay to help resolve this issue, I always felt that there would be a resolution based on eBay's feedback.
However, there has not been a resolution.
This buyer has gotten away with theft and I have not been protected.
Please assist me in coming to a resolution and forward this information to the appropriate eBay member that can resolve this matter.

Mentor4 months ago@cwarnersd1212 I am so sorry that CS gave you very bad advice several times. Agents often say what a member wants to hear so that they get a good rating. Unfortunately there is nothing more you can do.
We tell you the honest facts of the site. An agent can't change the site systems or policies.
You can only offer a partial refund if the buyer is not returning the item. Once they ship the item back you can ONLY offer partial refunds IF you qualify for seller protections. Looking at your sold listings it appears that you are using the No returns option. Keep in mind that is only for buyers remorse returns, the eBay Money Back Guarantee does override your no return policy.
Sellers have protection for return abuse if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns. The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.
Seller protection:
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/seller-protections?id=4345&st=1
You can report the buyer for return abuse so it goes on their record but it doesn't get you your money back.

OP4 months agoHello,
Thank you so much for your detailed and informative reply.
This is very helpful.
Sounds like the buyer is protected more than the seller. 😞
