Buyer demanding we honor manufacturer warranty
I had a buyer purchase an item from us in December that has developed an issue. The manufacturer has denied the warranty as I'm a third party seller and told the buyer that I am obligated to explicitly mention in the listing that any and all warranties are void. I didn't do that, but I also excluded any mention of warranties. I am aware we have no obligation to honor the manufacturer warranty.
What recourse does the buyer have? It's past the 30 days MBG period by over a month, but they're threatening to go to eBay and file a dispute. I tried looking for what eBay says on the matter, but can't find any policies about the need to mention in listings that warranties are void. Is that true or just bluster from the buyer?

Mentor3 years agoManufacturers do not honor warranties on their products unless the seller is an authorized dealer or reseller. Buyers only have 30 days from receipt of the product to file an Item Not as Described case in order to get their money back. ebay will not get involved past that 30 days. If the buyer paid with Paypal, s/he has up to 180 days from the transaction to file a case there. If the buyer paid with a credit card, s/he can file a chargeback.

OP3 years agoWe've been down this road before with a chargeback attempt. My concern is more about what the manufacturer is telling the buyer: That we are required to point out that warranties are void or else we're liable for them. I haven't been able to find anything from eBay regarding whether we need to point out all warranties are void. We don't offer them anyways, but do we need to also say that any included in the original packaging are void?
