buyer claiming he was charged twice

Question

Buyer claims he was charged twice for item and wants me to refund one of the charges. I smell a scam. I feel this is between him and eBay and doesn't involve me. I'm looking on line for the function where I can type in my phone number and an eBay rep will call me, but I can't find it. The "automated assistant" is useless.

This is how banks process charges. First they place a hold on the funds, then the actual charge goes through. The same thing happens when you charge a meal, gas, etc. Most people don't see it or know it's happening. Now with e-banking, it is visible. You will see it most often on the weekends, because the actual charge won't hit the bank until Monday and the funds need to be held until then.

Tell the buyer the first charge is probably hold they put on the funds and once the payment is complete, the hold should be removed.

Buyers are not "charged" for their purchases. Buyers PAY for their purchases.

You don't need to do anything, no need to contact Ebay. Buyer needs to handle this because they paid Ebay, not you. They can contact Ebay or their payment source.
