Buyer charged less for shipping than it costs me
I am a new seller on ebay and I thought that I correctly chose that the buyer would pay shipping based on their zip code. However, ebay charged them 5.78 for shipping, but my cost is $12.87. So I have to eat the difference???
How did this happen and how do I prevent it from happening again? Can I back out of the sale for this reason?

-I just checked a few of your listings and you have USPS on some and FedEx on others. You should decide on just one carrier would be my first piece of advice. I sue USPS exclusively. FedEx at times over charges after the fact.
-On the listing tool to create your listing you use the Calculated shipping setting and that way Buyers pay you based on the weight and dimensions you enter for the item PACKED for shipment, not just the weight and dimensions of the item.
-I have dealt with easily a half dozen new Sellers today with shipping mistakes and most of the issues are what I mention above.
-I am seeing that Industrial filter shipping from OR to PA for $ 5.78 ... I know that's not going to happen for that price. Did you accidentally use the Large envelope setting for the package type instead of a setting for packages? That mistake would make sense. To check that you can use the drop-down menu on the sold item and click the Sell Similar feature. This will create a duplicate listing for you to check the details in the shipping section. Once you get that info you can Save it for later. That will put it in your Draft file and you can delete it from there.

OP1 week agoHi! Thank you for replying.
--I live close to both USPS and FedEx, so I was just picking which one offered the lower rate, so as to give the buyer the best deal possible.
-- I get what you mean about packing material, but that was not the case here.
-- I wouldn't have known about a "large envelope setting" and when I go back into the post, it doesn't SAY "large envelope" but it says the dimensions are 14x10x4. Is that Large Envelope? My product dimensions are not that exactly, but it's not an irregular package and the linear inches will be that, so I wasn't worried. The weight limit (2 lbs) is WAY more than it's going to weigh. It would make more sense that they would charge me for the dimensions being off "after the fact" but I haven't mailed the product yet, and they are charging me more. Any thoughts on why?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Unfortunately, you can't just go back into the Listing to see what your original weight, dimensions and settings were. You have to use the Sell Similar and create a duplicate listing to see what you had set up. Did you use eBay's suggested weights and dimensions? If so they are wrong and I have never used theirs.
You will need to ship the item and pay the label price based on the actual weight and dimensions of the box the item will ship in. You will need to figure out where you made the mistake. We do not have account access so we cannot check all of that for you, sorry.
