Buyer asking for refund, but no option to deny
The buyer is stating the item was not as described because it does not contain the original packaging. However the listing clearly stated that it was open box and may not contain the original packaging. The item is brand new never used, just in a different box. They are requesting a full refund, but the listing also states no returns. eBay is not offering an option to deny the request, only an option to refund or message the seller. What do I do?

Mentor3 years agoWith a No Returns policy, you can deny the return if the buyer states a buyer's remorse reason: changed mind, doesn't like it doesn't fit, found it cheaper elsewhere. For those reasons you can deny the return, or you can accept the return with the buyer paying return shipping.

That makes no difference. The buyer has opened a Not As Described dispute, which means you will refund all the money. The only option you have is whether or not to require the item be returned, in which case you will pay for the return shipping. If you do nothing, then the buyer will "Ask eBay to step in and help" which is a button he can see after three days ... if the buyer does that, eBay will refund – using your money, of course – and allow the buyer to keep the item too.
Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? You'd think that eBay would simply check the listing, see that the item is described correctly, and send the buyer packing. That isn't the way it works. The dispute is handled automatically by computer, and the computer is programmed to award the complainant the win.
After the NAD case is closed, you then have the option to appeal the decision, if you're up for some additional frustration.

OP3 years agoThank you, that is pretty much what I was told through eBay as well. However, since I only clicked "accept return" and I did not click "send refund" the buyer does not receive the money yet. Once I receive the item back I can dispute the buyer's claims and they will be sent an affidavit stating they have abused the return policy and eBay is stating I will still receive the money as well as get to keep the item. I will believe it when I see it, but that is the only option I have.

·3 years agoNo, when you receive the item, you have two days to refund or Ebay will do it for you.
You'll be able to report the buyer for abusing the MBG, if you think they are, but they'll still get a refund.
