Buyer Asking For Money To Cover Repair - Options?
I recently sold an item to a buyer who claimed the item (a phone gimbal) wouldn't charge. They said they tried cable/charger/all of the normal things, but that now they were out of the US (I shipped to a US address). I suggested they reach out to the manufacturer to see if they had troubleshooting ideas, and if not to start a return. The buyer responded that the manufacturer had diagnosed the unit with a dead battery, that the buyer had spent money to fix it (only a little less money that the item sold for), and said "any help from you I really really appreciate it". I have no proof from them that there was a problem with the unit (for example, a video showing the serial number and the problem), and no proof of repair yet (I have asked). What are my options/next steps to handle this properly and not get scammed? What are my obligations and protections as a seller? TIA!
