Buyer alleges basketball card is counterfeit.
Summary: windy1mill1 is dealing with a buyer who wants a refund for a sports card, alleging it is counterfeit. They explained their background and the situation, mentioning that the auction was not flagged by eBay for being suspicious. gosimus advises that rather than letting eBay decide on a Not As Described (NAD) case, windy1mill1 should accept the return, provide a prepaid shipping label, and await the item's return before issuing a refund, to avoid possible penalties from eBay.
The buyer wants his money back. The following is my response to the buyer. Hi, sorry for the wait. We are still moving to a different city. I only discovered selling Sports cards about a year and half ago so; I am by no means an expert at spotting a fake. I find 99% of my cards at a local auction and have sold many of hundreds of sports cards. EBay has gotten really good at spotting counterfeits, forgeries and fakes. There have been 4 or 5 times that eBay has flagged an auction of mine as being suspicious and removed the listing. The auction in question was not flagged as being suspicious or counterfeit. I have had many people ask for refunds for nefarious reasons. I am inclined to turn this issue over to eBay and let them make a ruling. I am sorry for any inconvenience.
How should I respond?

You mean how should you have responded? You said that you already responded to the buyer. When you said the buyer wants his money back, do you mean the buyer has opened a Not As Described case? Or another type?
Your response to a NAD case is not to let eBay decide. If you resist the case, or drag your feet, until the buyer asks eBay to decide, eBay likely will refund the buyer (out of your account, of course), not require the buyer to return the item, not credit you back your fees, and issue you a Defect on your account.
The correct response to a NAD case is to accept the return, send the buyer a prepaid shipping label, and wait for the item to get back to you before you issue a refund.
