buy it now price was raised after I made the full value offer
buy it now was 69.99 or best offer. I made offer of 69.99 with a question added asking about a feature but I said I would take it regardless. Hours later the offer was declined and the buy it now price was raised to 99.99. Seller said it made a mistake but the history of the listing had over 11 buy it now price edits over the last 15 days . Is an offer to buy at buy it now price a binding offer?

OP1 year agoSo if I had hit the 'buy it now' button instead of the 'make offer' button , they still could have said no thanks? I thought certain things on Ebay were binding, ie. committing to buy or commiting to sell such as a lower than anticipated final bid is awarded and the buyer refuses to sell item at final bid (with no minimum cap)? Bummer.

Mentor1 year agoIf you had hit the Buy It Now option, and paid, and the seller decided to cancel and refund your payment, you can file a report if the seller did not use Out of Stock as the reason. Using that excuse will record a defect on the seller's account.

Mentor1 year ago@svtm No, not binding, sellers have the right to change prices and sell or not sell to whomever they want, this is not always ethical behavior but not illegal behavior

OP1 year agoSo I read this but its not clear on a buy it now listing (which it was)
--When an offer is sent or received--
You can't:
This is all I could find but doesnt really address my question as it (#2) states "on an auction style listing" unless changing the price of a fixed listing would be under #3 or #5.

ebay can make all the rules it wants, but the bottom line is - it can't 'force' a seller to follow thru on a sale.
the seller can use a multitude of 'excuses' as to why they didn't follow thru or no excuse, in this case, u said the seller said they made a mistake.
besides, u made the BIN price as an offer instead with a question involved. some sellers would consider this to be a 'problem' and would automatically block u. this may be the reason your offer was declined, which is the right of a seller.
u should have asked FIRST, then if u were satisfied, hit the BIN button.
