Business equipment purchase protection and wire transfers
I just purchased a mini excavator from a well rated seller on eBay with free shipping. I tried to use my credit card, but because I rarely ever use my credit card and this was for $10,900 charge on eBay, my bank denied to process the charge, even after I called and told them it was me.
I then tried to check out using PayPal (linked to the same card), but that was also denied. So I chose the option to pay via wire transfer facilitated by eBay. I now have 3 days to send a wire transfer to eBay or the transaction will be cancelled.
My question is, is this a safe way to pay? If I have trouble with the purchase do I as a buyer have adequate protection? If the machine doesn't show up will I have a hard time getting my money back?
Also, I have never heard of the business equipment purchase protection, am I adequately protected as a buyer with this even though I do not have a business account? It seems to me that this purchase protection is similar to the eBay money back guarantee, it is just administered by a third party for items like heavy equipment due to the high cost of these items, but the foreign man I spoke to on the phone when I called was very unfamiliar with the program and told me that I was not covered because I didn't have a business account.

Free shipping of heavy equipment and vehicles is always a red flag for me.
In reality, how much should it cost to ship from them to you?
I couldn’t imagine sending a stranger money that can’t be recovered, no matter their eBay rating.
I would need to look at the equipment, start it up, and have it inspected. I need to look the seller in the eye on big purchases.

Does this seller sell a lot of equipment?
What is his feedback like for such transactions?

·1 year agoI’m not familiar with the intricacies of the business equipment policies, but I do know that it’s completely different from the standard eBay money back guarantee, and is not nearly as comprehensive.
