Bought falsified MTG card and want to return it
Hi there,
I recently bought a very expensive MTG card. See item here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/256755283995
The card arrived on Monday 01/18 and on inspection, I noticed that the card is fake. I immediately contacted the seller. I asked to return the product and get a refund. The seller showed surprise, but accepted my request and asked me to send the card back. Once he receives it, he will reimburse me. He told me he would prepare a "proforma invoice" similar to the one he sent the card and would send to me, so I could send with the card (we are in different countries, I'm in the US and he is in Italy).
Since Monday, there was little movement, he mention he was likely sending the invoice today, but I did not get anything. I'm trying to act in good faith, but I worry that he could be just dragging his feet waiting for some deadline to pass.
What is the recommendation here.
Thanks!

I am sorry that happened!
You should open a Return Request. The reason could be "Doesn't Match photos and description" if the item you got was not what was shown and described.
You can open your return request here. Just click the photo and follow the instructions.

Do not close your return request until you either have your refund in hand or you have the replacement item. Do not close it because the seller promises you something.

OP1 year agoHi @eastlaneave,
Thanks again for the response. I opened the return request as you suggested. Ebay sent me confirmation of my return request. In this confirmation they inform me that Ebay will send me an email when the seller responds to my request. Ebay gave until Jan 14th for a solution. If not, they will step in and help.
Since then, I have not heard from the seller, but from here on is where things get confusing:
- The seller did not reply to the return process yet. The request has the following message:
We'll send you an email when the seller responds to your request. If you have not agreed on a solution or the seller has not responded by Jan 14, you can ask us to step in and help.
- However, when I click in my order id, I have the following message in the very top:
Please ship your item to proceed with your return.
I'm hesitant to ship the item back without the proper response from the seller to the message from Ebay. With that said. He had already agreed to receive the card back in my initial conversation (see my original message), but never followed up on the instructions to how to return the card.
I guess my question is, should I go ahead and ship the card back or wait for his response to the actual return request I submitted earlier this week?
Thank you again!

Mentor1 year agoSince the seller is in another country s/he cannot send a shipping label good in the USA. S/he will have to send you enough funds, via Paypal, to cover the cost of return shipping. The other option is the seller refunds your full payment and does not require return of the item. Wait until Jan 14th for the seller to respond. If no response or refund, go back to the request on Jan 15th and click Ask ebay to help you, to force the refund.

OP1 year agoThank you so much for the response. I managed to get some traction in this case:
The night before the deadline, the seller accepted the return. Ebay provided the return address and gave me until 01/29 to send the card back. The seller informed Ebay that he provided me with the shipping label, which is not true. I requested him the shipping label and he has not responded. Frankly, given the cost of the purchase, I'm happy to pay for the shipping, even if costs me hundreds of dollars. What I want to avoid is some sort of technicality that could be used as an excuse to not refund me the transaction.
Is there any risk of simply send the product back without the shipping label?
Thanks again!

You need to use the label he provided in the case. - Double check the case for a jpg image shipping label. Also look in your eBay messages and your email.
Then, you should contact eBay to confirm the next step.
If you send it back yourself, you *must* add the tracking number to the case, otherwise you will lose your $.
