Bought a Pokemon Card on ebay, tracking was fishy but marked as delivered but never arrived...
Ebay seller runes.la19 has 0 feedback and a small batch of rare Pokemon cards for a good deal, below their market value but not too low to avoid suspicion. Inventory number was also suspicious, all listings had exactly 10 of each. But I was curious and I went in to test it thinking it was either a fake or the card would never send. I was confident ebay would refund me if something went wrong. I ordered a Mega Gardevoir SAR card from him on 3/23 and the seller shipped 3/24 without tracking, as expected. Come Monday I get a notification that it was delivered on Friday 3/27. this is unusual... ebay constantly lets me know when an item is arriving not when it arrived already. I take a look at the tracking... uploaded 3/30... label created 3/25... a day later after it was marked shipped... and delivered 8:37 on 3/27... but I never received any package that day. Is it possible to send me a bogus tracking somehow? Also arriving from Arizona to Massachusetts in a day? I don't think I've seen my mail arrive that fast, usually 3-5 business days. But opening a case seems like it won't end in my favor, since the tracking says delivered. I've never had something like this happen before and I've ordered a lot of cards. Given the 0 feedback, reused photos from other listings (google image search will show another listing with same photos) and fishy inventory count, and the odd tracking behavior it is most definitely a scam but... how?! How can you fake tracking and make it look delivered? And how can ebay fight this?

Mentor5 months agoTake the tracking number down to your local Fed Ex office and have them check their GPS for where the package was delivered. If it was NOT addressed to youi and your address, have the Fed Ex clerk state that on their letterhead. They don't need to state the name/address attached to the tracking number, just that it was not addressed to YOU.

Explain that the seller is using fake USPS tracking numbers
Include these phrases:
Seller uploaded tracking not associated with my transaction
Tracking details were not accurate
Seller use a false tracking number
Don't write a novel, it's initially being read by a computer, that's why I want you to use those 3 specific phrases in the message.

OP5 months agoThank you very much for the reply, I can't believe scammers have figured out something like faking tracking and abusing ebay's item delivered process...

Mentor5 months agoUnfortunately they have learned how to do this and have been doing this for about a year. It is hard to detect in advance but the more appeals that are made with the required proof the sooner they will be removed from eBay.

OP5 months agoHi there, thankfully the listing was removed when I reported it to ebay but when I went to USPS they refused to give me the proof of delivery since it had a different name and address. So even though I had the same tracking as the label they had, they refused to let me take a picture of it for privacy protection even though the name could just be a fake. So I don't have anything to show ebay that it was not delivered to my address. This scam is crazy because not only can you lose a case because it shows delivered, USPS can't even help you because the name on their label doesn't match yours. But since all the seller's listings were removed I wonder if I can ask ebay to close the case and issue a refund.
