"Bot buyer" scam
I recently sold an item and received an email from who I thought was the buyer. It thanked me for the item and asked me to send it to an address that it provided. Since it was from within eBay email, I at first thought it was legit. Is this something that's going on within the eBay world and is eBay aware of it.

Who you thought? But you determined that it wasn't? Sometimes a lying sack thief will send a message like that, hoping that the seller isn't on his toes and will fall for it. I hope that you didn't fall for it. If it's the actual buyer, explain that you are obligated to ship to the address that came with the checkout. If he wants it changed, you'll have to cancel the transaction and relist it for the guy to buy again and this time provide the right address.

OP1 year agoIt was hard to explain this one in my post, but not long after I got the "bot email", I actually got an email from the actual buyer, who was legit. Since I was paying for shipping through eBay, his address was associated with the purchase, so all was good. Somehow this "bot" was alerted that there was a successful sale and it sent me an email - through eBay's email program - trying to get me to fall for it. It's frightening that I should get an email within the eBay environment. I keep saying "bot" by the way, because it was pretty clear this was generated by a computer or bot of some kind. The street address it wanted me to send to had each element of the address in quotes, i.e.
"1234 elm st"
"anywhere"
"usa"
"54321"
