Bids over asking price?
I am new to ebay and maybe have twenty or so sales. I have had a few folks offer a price that is over the "buy it now" price. For example, I got an offer for $15 on an item I was selling for $11.24. It seems odd, like maybe a scam of some sort? But I can't figure out where the scam part comes in. I counteroffered for $13 just to mess with them, but they accepted the offer, and I have since shipped it off.
Can anyone tell me what is going on with this?

It may make sense to offer a higher amount on an auction listing, but not on a Fixed Price listing. If you are receiving offers on Fixed Price listings for more than the listed amount, consider NOT responding to the offer at all and add the buyer to your blocked buyer list.
I'm not sure what the scam is, but a common one would be that the buyer would attempt to take the transaction off eBay and make a fake payment. As long as the buyer paid through checkout as usual, you should be OK.

I assume they actually paid for the item before you shipped it to them right?

OP7 months agoWell if Ebay says they have bought it, can I assume the money has been used to make the purchase? I think with some of the auctions I have had to wait for payment to come, but not for the buy it now ones. I was wondering if maybe ebay advertised the product at a higher price than I was asking and that is why they paid more? It has happened to me twice now, and I believe I got the payment out of it.

Unless you arranged for payment outside of eBay (which would be a policy violation), and eBay shows the item had been paid, the buyer paid through eBay checkout. So all is well there.
It's possible it's just a buyer who doesn't really understand how eBay works and thinks they should make an offer.
