·2 years agoNo "trickery" involved. Sellers have a choice to opt out of the fairly recent eBay program to require all buyers to pre-authorize payment if the seller accepts the Best Offer the buyer makes. So for some sellers you are required to provide the shipping address and payment method and authorize payment, for others you are not (the options to change the address and payment method and the language authorizing payment are on the offer confirmation screen if the former, if the latter they are not there).
The seller has up to 24 hours to accept the offer. If s/he does and you had to pre-authorize payment then your payment source is billed and there is no further action to take. If you did not have to pre-authorize then you have to go through Checkout to select your shipping and payment options and pay. Until the seller acts or the offer expires (including earlier than the 24 hours if the listing ends for any reason, like someone else buying it, or if it is an auction listing and the auction gets a bid) the offer is "pending". Once it is rejected (including the seller making a counteroffer) or expires it is no longer pending and you can move on.
