Bidder Retracting 15 Bids in 30 days ~ Artificial Inflation?
Summary: qfruge expressed concern about a possible pattern of bid retraction and artificial price inflation by another bidder, who retracted 15 bids in 30 days and had a high bid activity with a specific seller. qfruge is seeking ways to report and investigate these activities for possible manipulation of auction prices. jacbarcollectibles pointed out that bid retractions usually lead to price reductions, suggesting that the situation might not be affecting the auctions as suspected.
I bid on seller items and I recently noticed the same bidder, bidding against me on multiple items. They typically bid .50 or $1 until around $13 on multiple items. I reported it to the seller they other day because a specific item, they also retracted their bids on multiple items. The next day began bidding on the exact same items.
I accessed the 30-Day Bidder Details for the bidder. The account shows 255 total bids on 98 items, 67% bid activity with this seller, 15 bid retractions in the last 30 days, and 21 bid retractions in 12 months. This means 15 of the account's 21 twelve-month retractions occurred in the most recent 30 days. I have also documented this feedback-score bidder bidding incrementally against me across multiple auctions from this seller. Is there a way to report seller/bidder investigation and review for invalid bid retraction activity and possible artificial price inflation.
Thank you

Mentor3 months agoIf a bid is retracted then the price will go down since the retracted bid is no longer supporting the current high bid. There are time limits for when bids can be retracted so this should not be hurting auctions.

OP3 months agoI get all that but there must be valid reasons to retract a bid. This bidder did it 21 times in 30days. If you retract a $12 one day and then the next day bid from $4 back to $13 on the same item, it's super suspicious and should be a violation of bid retractions policy
