Bid on my own item in auction

Question

So ebay suggested a beginning bid amount that was lower than I had in mind. Turns out a bid was made at that low amount. Can I bid against the person trying to get the item for a way too low amount ?

@meljo_8682 No, it's not possible to bid on your own items. Even if was that would be called shill bidding and is not just against eBay policy but it's illegal.

I recommend you end the listing, revise and relist. ALWAYS start auctions at a price you will be happy with if you get just one bid. Don't delay, do this right away.

If you are ending an auction with bids you may be charged a fee based on the highest bid. eBay allows sellers to end one auction listing early a year without charging a fee.

No, you cannot bid on the item. In the future NEVER EVER take eBay's advice on the starting price for an Auction. Your starting price needs to be high enough that if ONE bid wins the Auction you make a profit, more bids means more profit.

Sadly, eBay has refused to give Sellers that simple instruction on how to determine an Auctions starting price.
