What exactly do you mean by "k changed my automatic highest maximum bid"?
If you mean you retracted your bid (I see 2 retractions on your Feedback Profile in the past 12 months) that is what "retracted" means--the bid is removed (along with any other bids you placed on that auction if the retraction is prior to the last 12 hours of the auction). If you made a typo and so are retracting for "Entered wrong amount" you are obligated to immediately rebid the correct amount (the amount you INTENDED to type in the bid box in the first place). Otherwise the only valid reason to retract is if the seller changes the description (by adding something to it that significantly alters the described nature or details of the item) after you bid.
There is only one situation where a hidden maximum bid is amended rather than removed: if the bid did not meet the seller's Reserve Price when it was placed (listing continued to say "Reserve not met") but the seller subsequently lowered the Reserve to less than or equal to the hidden maximum, in which case the bid amount is automatically reduced to $1.00 (for items listed in US $ on ebay.com) less than the new Reserve Price.
