Below standard fee? Okay, I'll take a 2 month vacation for it to reset
Summary: oiotopsales expressed frustration with eBay's seller policies, particularly regarding a 'below standard performance fee' which could result in a 6% sales penalty. They considered taking a break to let the average reset or manipulating sales stats to improve their standing. disneyshopper and evry1nositswindy advised against pausing sales, suggesting instead to increase sales volume to lower the defect percentage. gosimus noted the symbiotic relationship between buyers and sellers. eastlaneave provided detailed guidance on how to improve seller performance and recover from a below standard rating, emphasizing the importance of active sales and resolving defects.
eBay has to be THE dumbest platform in regards to almost every situation I have had to deal with them. Speak to customer service this morning after seeing a "below standard performance fee. After speaking with the agent, it basically boils down to letingt them take 6% of sales for the next 50 sales assuming I get no "out of stock sales", or go on vacation for 2 months and let the average settle out. I think ill take a Liberis cash advance, build some inventory up and go on vacation for 2 months. eBay -this company FAILS to realize without SELLERS they don't have anything for a BUYER to purchase.

I don't know if your defects are rolling off in 2 months, it depends on the numbers whether a 2 month vacation will help you, but a 2 month vacation will hurt your 'velocity'.
I, myself, would list and sell 50 items to improve my stats and keep my store active. it's hard to rebuild from 0 sales to lots of sales.
You need fewer than 2% of your transactions to have defects, which are
✓ Transactions you canceled for being out of stock
✓ Cases closed without seller resolution
The only solution is to increase the denominator - the number of sales
One way to do that is to find something inexpensive to sell and list it very inexpensively so you sell a number of them quickly. That will raise the denominator and thus lower the percentage of defects.
Example
4 defects/ 100 sales = 4%
4 defects/200 sales = 2%
The consequences of falling Below Standard can include:
- Your items may be placed lower in search results
- eBay may limit or restrict you from selling on your account and related accounts, or from registering a new account
- Funds from your sales may be held
- You'll be charged a higher percentage rate for final value fees
--- You will be blocked from using the Promoted Listings tool, and will not be able to create new campaigns or edit existing campaigns
- eBay may downgrade your eBay Store to the Basic level if you've been Below Standard for more than 60 days
- You'll be unable to access the partial refund tool
"Your seller performance status is at risk in the US" means that your account is at risk of being closed or being assessed higher Final Value Fees due to problems in your sales.

If your account doesn't meet the minimum seller performance standards for the US in the evaluation on the 20th of the month, you'll be charged an additional 6% on the final value fees applicable to sales in the following calendar month. Go to your Seller Dashboard to check your current seller level.

OP1 month agoAccording the representative it is on a 12 month rolling average.
Hypothetically speaking, I can list 50 $0.01 trading cards at auction and then get out of the below standard. OR, I can have them take an extra 6% of approximately $3000 in subtotal sales. This seems preposterous to me, flawless ratings in every other metric yet (1) single metric barely out spec has them taking a ridiculous amount.
My frustration comes with flawless metrics in every other category. 3 of the orders were later found and resold to the original buyer, all of which left positive feedback.

Yes it is 12 months, but if you have no sales for 2 months that will impact the rolling average in a bad way.
I need more information, actual figures, to know how it will impact you. I promise that sellers here on Ask A Mentor understand how defects work better than customer service.
How many orders did you cancel (how many defects)
How many sales in the 12 months?
When will those defects roll off in those 2 months?
How many sales will also roll off in those 2 months?
6% of $3000 = $180 - it's not chump change, but giving up 2 months of sales is expensive, too.

< without SELLERS they don't have anything for a BUYER to purchase >
Here we go again. The debate on which is more important probably dates back to the day that Pierre sold his broken pointer. In fact, the relationship between buyer and seller is symbiotic: if either disappears, both perish. But, if you push me to choose one, I would have to give slightly more weight to the one who brings the money to the table.

OP1 month agoI understand your perspective and thank you for sharing.
I ask what good is bringing money to the store if the store has nothing for you to spend the money on?

Mentor1 month agoAs sales fall off and no sales coming in, your below seller standard will get worse. Make as many good sales as possible. Out of stock defects are taken quite seriously and can get any seller suspended indefinitely (forever).

Mentor1 month agoTaking a 2 month vacation is not going to help. To get back to above standard, you need to INCREASE your sales so the percentage of defect is reduced. I believe 3 Out of Stock defects will get a seller to below standard seller.
