Belligerent Seller RE: Return
Summary: dpikop1 shared their experience with a seller who shipped them a damaged item that did not match the listing description. The seller admitted the item was already damaged before shipping but became abusive when a return was initiated through eBay, which was resolved in the buyer's favor. dpikop1 expressed concerns about possible retribution due to the seller's behavior and criminal record. jacbarcollectibles advised that any threats should be reported to the police and noted that eBay cannot act on a seller's criminal record. The discussion seeks advice on whether to proceed with the return or cancel it out of fear.
Seller shipped a damaged item that didn't match the listing description which stated that "Cosmetically, it is in good condition with normal light signs of use". Upon contacting the seller, I shared detailed pictures of the extensive damage and shipping container. Seller confessed that it was damaged before he shipped it. I stated I could start a return through eBay (which I did). Seller became very belligerent, abusive and made false accusations about me in eBay messaging. eBay closed the return in my favor and has instructed me to return the item. However, I am very concerned about seller retribution regarding the return. Seller has my address and seller is not too far from my location. I've reported the seller's comments to eBay. Researching the seller online indicates he has a criminal record. I'm currently in a quandry - eBay's customer support chatbot refuses to connect me with a live agent to discuss this. I will not leave the seller bad feedback because of my concerns. I'm wondering if I should just cancel the return and let the seller get away with it? What has been your experience? Any recommendations?

Mentor1 week agoThere is nothing that eBay can do about the seller after the return and refund is made. This would be a matter for your police department if the seller attempted to do anything to you. Most seller threats are never follow through. A user with a criminal record is not a violation of any eBay policy so eBay has nothing to say about this.
