Bank account charged extra by eBay-lost $ on sale!

I recently sold a vintage poster on eBay. After the sale, I realized I had underestimated the shipping cost, so I paid UPS an additional amount to cover the remaining postage. I also paid eBay's selling fees.
After the item was delivered, eBay withdrew an additional $64 from my bank account, claiming the package was oversized and weighed 40 pounds. This is false. The package was accurately measured by UPS, all required postage was paid, and the total weight was only 5 pounds.
The buyer paid $75 for the poster. After the shipping label, additional UPS postage, eBay fees, and the unauthorized $64 charge, my total costs exceeded the sale price, leaving me with a loss.
I do not understand how this charge is justified, especially since the package's size and weight were accurately documented. Because I could not reach a live eBay representative to resolve the issue, I had no choice but to dispute the charge through my bank, despite the risk to my eBay seller account.
Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Mentor3 weeks agoDisputing the charge will end up being a big problem with eBay. You should have come here first for some information about why the additional charge may have been made.
UPS scans the package while it goes through their system and may add surcharges and other fees after the fact which are billed to eBay so they charge your account for the fees UPS has assessed. You say it was a posted and these can be a problem shipping as there are surcharges for long packages and if you used a tube then this is considered an irregular package that will also have its own surcharge. The weight issue has to do with the package being charged by DIM (dimensional) weight and not by actual weight.

OP3 weeks agoIt was not a tube package, it was flat and weighed 5 pounds. The receipt EBay sent to me was from UPS and they marked it as being 40 pounds-charged me an EXTRA $64 because of that faulty weight that they claimed. EBay chat told me to make the claim with UPS, so that’s what I plan on doing, after the charge clears my bank.

OP3 weeks agoDimensional weight-40 pounds? That just doesn’t make sense. And, the post office entered the correct dimensions for the $40 I paid for shipping/label. 🤯
