bad shipping label
Sold an item and EBAY provided me with a shipping label for 2lbs when the item weighs 9lbs. How to I get a corrected shipping label? The item is a set of golf clubs so pretty sure they know how much they should weigh.

Mentor8 months agoIf you plan to sell more golf clubs, check the rates for UPS as well as Fed Ex. USPS has extras charges when the package exceeds 22 and 30 inches, which is why most sellers no longer use USPS when they have packages longer than 22 inches. Before listing, weigh the packaged item and get the dimensions for the package so you can enter all of that information so buyers see accurate shipping costs to their location. If you make a mistake, you cannot ask the buyer to pay the difference.

OP8 months agoThanks for the advice. How would I know the shipping charge if I do not know who is going to buy it? Don't I need to list the shipping charge in the listing?

As I advised in my response, you don't need to put the shipping cost in the listing as the actual cost is based on the buyer's ship-to zip code, the package size and weight. eBay calculates the correct shipping cost for whoever views the listing based on their location.
A buyer in CA will see a very different shipping cost versus what I would see.

Mentor8 months agoHi @kevlar9898
The SELLER enters the weight and package size in the item listing - NOT eBay. eBay has no idea what something weighs. That's your responsibility.
If you make an error in the listing parameters, then you can correct them when creating your shipping label so you are charged the correct amount for it.
If you didn't collect enough for shipping from the buyer due to not setting the parameters correctly, you must cover the difference out of pocket. You're not allowed to try to collect more for shipping than what is shown in the listing.

OP8 months agoThank you for the reply. Bit of an EBAY novice and did not really see those parameters but I did look at similar listings for the approximate price. Not sure why USPS wants to charge $20 more than other comparable listings. Isn't the label prepaid? USPS did not give me the option to cover the difference, only to pay full price.
Thinking I should cancel the sell and relist?

If you cancel the sale and relist, you will receive a defect on your selling metrics. Too many of those and you won't be selling for long.

Don't use the cost of shipping from another listing. The cost depends on the package weight and size and the distance between you and the buyer. When you look at a listing, you see the shipping to YOUR zip code. It's could be 3 times higher to a further zip code...or lower.
Use eBay's calculated shipping for an accurate charge to the buyer based on his zip code.
