Bad experience - don't trust the buttons to filter out sellers.

Ordered an item early on Friday 8/11, the item stated it was coming from New Jersey, you know the USA.  I always use the button to filter out foreign sellers.  Upon checking the status this morning, Monday 8/14, the item hasn't even been mailed.  Then the fun begins, upon contacting Ebay via chat, I find out the seller is in Hong Kong!

I now have to wait days for my money back and after almost two hours of chatting - still no answer as to how a seller in Hong Kong can list an item as being mailed from New Jersey!  Don't trust the filter buttons to filter anything!  Guess going forward I will have to spend a lot of time doing my own research on where a seller is located.  Don't rely on the listing to be true, or count on the buttons to do anything - they seem to be just decoration.

Good luck - I know I will be leery of purchasing items going forward.  Sad, just sad!

    Hi @dannyocarrie

Nothing you described so far is unusual or indicative of wrongdoing.

There is no reason to expect an item purchased on a Friday to be shipped over the weekend.  If the listing showed a 24-hour handling time … and you didn’t say that it did … then it is likely to be shipped the following Monday.  [Saturday and Sunday are NOT business days.]

Many sellers living outside the US use US dropshippers, which is consistent with the Item Location being in the US.  [The ‘filters’ isolate the ITEM location … NOT the seller location, which is irrelevant.]

I also always limit my searches to the US.  In the past month … FOUR of my items had sellers outside the US … yet all arrived on time from US locations, as stated.

You are sounding an alarm that probably will turn out to be false.  There is no reason to believe at this point that your item won’t be coming from within the US … and very likely in a Walmart box.

Please come back and verify where your items were shipped from … as soon as you know.

Sorry - It is wrong on many levels!

The item stated it was coming from Dayton, New Jersey.  The latest tracking reads as follows:

August 14, 2023 4:27 am, Departed Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting Item Bensenville, IL

I am now being told I have to wait until 8/28 or 8/31 for my refund to be issued.  That is over 2 weeks!  Never have I had to wait that long, nor do I feel it is fair that I am having to wait that long, for a refund from a lying seller.

Others must be having an issue as well, the positive feedback was 100% last Friday, upon checking it is now down to 97.1%

Don't mean to sound snippy, but I have spent numorous hours calling & messaging with Ebay on this, and I am very frustrated.  Almost to the point of never buying anything again on here, sad after an 8 year run.

You will want to report the seller for Item Location Misrepresentation. Go to your purchase history and click on the listing with the item. On the next page, click on the link next to the title of the item that says "See original listing". That will take you to the actual item listing you purchased from.

Scroll down the page until you find the Report Item button. (It is a box near the bottom of the page when using the app. If on a PC, you will find it above the description on the right hand side.) Click on Report Item and the report will appear.

On the first drop down box titled Report Category, select "Listing practices". On the second drop down entitled Reason for Report, choose "Other listing practices". Then the last drop down for Detailed Reason, select "Item location misrepresentation." Then click Continue. Another box will appear for you to make a brief note in. Identify yourself as the buyer and explain your issue in just a few words. Then click Submit. As the actual buyer, your report will be given greater weight.

I have reported them, requested a refund since it has not been mailed.  Spent the better part of two hours chatting with 4 different staff members.  Gotta wait days for my refund, got no explaination as to why the buttons don't filter as they should, or how a seller located in Hong Kong can state an item is coming from New Jersey, which last I knew was located in the USA.

Thank you for the response and instructions on how do this myself!  Gotta say, this has made me very leery of trusting Ebay going forward.  I will have to spend extra time doing my own research if I do buy again, which is up in the air right now.  Don't understand why I have to wait days for my money back, when they can see where the seller is located and the lie that is on the item's page.  But whatever.
