Awaiting Payment issue with accepted offers
A couple of weeks ago I accepted an offer but the item did not show up in Awaiting Payment of Shipment until several hours later. It happened again a few days later
Last Friday I accepted an offer and the same thing happened - only this time I realised that the listing was still showing as Open. Ebay rep said that it was because buyer hadn't enough funds to complete the sale and to contact the buyer . Buyer said they didn't see it either...sale was lost. Today the same thing happened - eBay rep said it was now policy to keep unpaid for listings Open until paid for - couldn't really follow his explanation or logic why... As we talked I accepted three more offers from the same buyer - two went into Awaiting Payment, one went into limbo with the first one. Rep still claimed this was normal even though four sales were being handled in two ways. He then accepted there was a problem but that sellers wanted listings to show as open to allow a second buyer to buy it after an initial offer was accepted...absolutely not the way this worked in the past nor a way I'd like to handle non-paying buyers ( which I can count on one hand every year over 21 years on here ). Todays sales did all go through but I still can't see what has happened here - rep said it was policy change made in the past month? Did I miss it? Is the Waiting Payment category being phased out ?
Long post - hoping someone can shed some light on it?

OP2 years agoI do have those boxes checked - can't think when I last looked at that page so that isn't something I did recently..the ' Send Invoice ' function seems to have disappeared as well recently - but not every time- I've given voluntary refunds for combined shipping quite a few times recently as I didn't have the opportunity to make an adjustment before payment. I think I know what the strategy is on that...
As far as my initial comments - whatever they're doing I'll guess we'll get used to it but I hate to think what happens when something gets sold twice...

OP2 years agoAnd the exact same thing has just happened again - accepted three best offers from the same buyer
One shows as ' Awaiting Payment ' the other two as still Active - although hitting Manage Offers on them says offers were accepted... makes no sense!!!

Mentor2 years ago@somerset.house eBay is "testing" this new method of handling best offers. The feedback from sellers is that it's confusing, especially since it's not consistent as you have seen even with the SAME buyer.
This seems to be separate from the account settings where a seller can require a payment method before buyer makes an offer or bids on an auction. I am guessing that you have the boxes in account settings unchecked or the item shouldn't have remained active and would have been billed to the buyers payment method as soon as you accept the offer. I don't have the boxes checked and don't recommend it if you want to be able to combine shipping.
