Automatic payment for bidding items

Iâ€™ve noticed recently that a lot of bidding items automatically bill to a preferred form of payment if you are the highest bidder. Is there any way to use a gift card to pay instead?

eBay gives auction winners 1 hour after the auction ends to checkout manually (at which time the payment methods accepted at checkout but not for pre-authorization of automatic payment can be used) to prevent the automatic payment from going through on the payment method you had to specify for the pre-authorization.

It is up to the seller whether a payment method needs to be specified in advance for bids or offers. In that case, you may not be able to use a gift card; you may have to use a payment method that supports a reversible payment hold such as a credit or debit card.

In some cases, eBay may allow up to an hour or more from the end of an auction for the buyer to combine auctions or choose a different payment method. You might be able to specify a gift card at that time.
