automatic payment caused excess shipping payment
I found ebay turned on auto pay without a hint of advance notice. It caused me to have to pay excess shipping on items that could have easily shipped together. How do I get it refunded? The shipper did multiple shipments and had no way of knowing that ebay had turned on my autopay. so i'm sure it looked like I made the payments. I REALLY do no appreciate ebay thinking it's okay to turn on my autopayments without my permission. And of course there's no info anywhere about how to turn it off. So now, I have no credit cards stored in the ebay system. What an annoying company.

Ebay has implemented automatic payments in order to ward off the problem with non-paying buyers. They do not need to ask the buyer's permission.
Buyers cannot turn off automatic payments.

Mentor1 year agoEbay is not targeting just you, the automatic payment implementation is across the board.

OP1 year agoNot for me. My credit cards have been deleted. Won't be able to buy much until they fix the problem. So what about my original question? Ebay interfered right in the middle of a couple purchases and cost me $13 in excess shipping. Febay. Been using ebay for a quarter century without autopay. And it's not needed now. If they find a non-payer, delete them.

With automatic payments, sellers are unable to offer discounts for combined shipping.

OP1 year agoSo you've identified the problem. Wrong answer though. Ebay has made it impossible for them to combine shipping. If they think people are going to pay individual shipping for multiple items from same seller, they care even less about their business than I already thought. To give you an example of how ebay doesn't really care, this useless conversation falls under "customer service" in ebay's opinion. That's ridiculous. This has nothing to do with customer service. So they still cost me an excess $13 and I never would have bought it if they'd had the decency, the integrity, and the basic courage to let me know they THOUGHT they're allowed to turn on autopay for my credit card and were going to do it. They DON'T have that option with my credit card. In fact, they have lost my trust with my credit card number so completely they'll have to make changes beyond the way they did things before now to get me to leave a number in their system. The fools at ebay thing they're entitled to decide things for me. They're not. It's already costing them money. Febay

Mentor1 year agoIf you know you are going to purchase multiple items from a specific seller, and that seller gives a discount for combined shipping, use the CONTACT SELLER and let him/her know of your plans, and that you would appreciate it if s/he would go to his/her shipping preferences and opt out of the auto payments from buyers.

OP1 year agoRidiculous and ponderous. Time consuming too. Bureaucratic mess trying to keep track of all the back and forth. 1) Ebay is stepping way over the line of acceptable business practices thinking that just because my cc number is in their system they can use it to pay for something automatically without me approving it. 2) Ebay thinks they're slick by putting the auto pay option on the seller's side, if that's what has happened. (That's another problem. Zero transparency. Who knew this was happening?). Only problem is it's the buyer's credit card. It's costing ebay money. I know. Nothing was wrong with the system before. Non paying bidders could easily be dealt with. The other 99.9% of us should be left alone. It's really not about nonpaying bidders. It's about ebay slamming as many pennies into their pockets as fast as they can get them there. Only problem is it's slowing down traffic on buyers who need/use combined shipping on a frequent basis. I know. And instead of a customer service dept ebay substitutes a chat-with-dummies room. Febay. I'll be glad when big tech has their day just like AT&T and Standard Oil. Can't come too soon.

Well, ebay must have thought giving the buyers 4 days to pay, and many not paying, causing cancellations, and therefore, no income from the final value fees, was causing a problem with lost income. Many other platforms charge the buyer the minute the item is purchased.
