Authenticity Guarantee & Returns Accepted - question
Summary: jac_624583 purchased a Pokémon card on eBay with the Authenticity Guarantee and has concerns about returning it after breaking the seal. They found a larger scratch on the card than shown in the listing photos and were told they might not be able to return it due to the broken seal. lady_madonna clarified that breaking the seal doesn't prevent filing a return within 3 days of delivery and suggested using eBay's help pages for accurate return policy information. jac_624583 questioned the return window specifics, and lady_madonna directed them to check the listing page and eBay's policy links for more details.
Hey y'all,
So I bought an expensive pokemon card on eBay for the first time. It had the Authenticity Guarantee, and Returns Accepted. I chose this card because it had returns accepted. If something was wrong I wanted to be able to get my money back.
Card went thought the AG process and got to me no prob.
I took it out of the packaging, broke the AG seal, and then realized upon closer inspection that the small scratch that was photographed in the listing was actually way bigger and thicker than it looked in the pictures. The seller did a great job of making it look small and minor but it indeed is pretty large and closer to major.
I thought hey no worries I can return it. Asked Google Gemini how to return the item and if it was easy, only for it to tell me that I was outta luck since I broke the seal.
Is this true? I'm just cannot wrap my head around why Returns Accepted would be an option in a scenario like this where actually it's pretty difficult or impossible to return it.
Also side note - nowhere did eBay tell me about this broken seal thing. You'd think if this is true they would put a warning somewhere visible.
Sorry to rant, any info or insight is greatly appreciated!

Mentor3 weeks agoBreaking the seal would not mean that you would not be able to file a Return Request within 3 days from delivery.
Instead of using Gemini, you could have used the help pages on Ebay regarding the Money Back Guarantee to find out information about returning the item.
Read about Ebay's Return Request process here:

Mentor3 weeks ago · EditedYou should be able to see the return policy on the listing page. Some sellers may accept returns beyond the 3 days.
Also, you can read here about the timeline for returning trading cards:
