Authenticator "graded" my sold card.
Is it normal practice for an authenticator to grade an item (90 year old baseball card) and then contact the buyer and tell them it's authentic but not to buy it on account of the condition? Mind you I had 18 high res, well lite and zoomed in photos in the listing. I was told it would only be authenticated. I lost the sale and then some more money for additional charges for the returns. The transaction isn't completed yet so I don't know what the total damages are.

Mentor5 months ago@type-o-negative1 Authenticators also make sure that the condition stated on the listing matches the item. I would not have considered the condition as Very Good. Although it could be considered very good for it's age, that is not what the condition means.

OP5 months agoOh, so now I have to grade the condition of the card myself as though I am a grader and not the buyers decision. Thats what the 18 photos are for. Guess I'll not bother with photos anymore, just take piks 4 feet away don't even take the card out of the scratched holder. I appreciate your reply though. And thanks for the info that "authenticators" don't only authenticate (even though ebay says nothing of the sort). As you can see I'm still but hurt over it, I can only hope I don't have to get it authenticated again and it comes back in a sealed semi-rigid sleeve.

Mentor5 months ago@type-o-negative1 I have to give an opinion grade on comics too. Photos are of course important as they show what the condition is. The condition of the item that you select AND the condition in the photos needs to be as close as possible. Call out in any major flaws in the text description.
I don't make the eBay rules, just trying to help you with an explanation of why it was denied.
If you sell the card again it will have to go through authentication again since it is over $250, there is no way to avoid this. I understand that it's frustrating.
