Authentication Issue
Summary: ne-242906 is facing an issue after selling a designer purse on eBay, which was authenticated but later questioned by the buyer as fake. This has resulted in the buyer opening a return request. eastlaneave suggests that since it's a pre-owned item, the return should be accepted and the bag will be re-authenticated. ne-242906 confirms that the buyer has indeed opened a return.
I am unsure of what to do in this situation as I am new to selling on eBay. I recently sold a designer purse that was sent to eBay for authentication and then approved for the buyer. I received my payment for the item. The buyer is now initiating a refund because they had the purse authenticated on their own and it was deemed a fake. Is there something I can do as a seller so I am not losing all of the profit from this sale because of eBay's faulty authentication. I do no feel this is my responsibility as a seller if eBay is the one that completes the authentication of such items. Are there protections for me as a seller in this situation and what should be done according to the authenticity guarantee?

Since this was a pre-owned item, you will need to accept the return if the buyer opens a not-as-described return. The handbag will go back to Authenticity to verify it's the same item.

Did the buyer open a return, or are they just messaging you about it?

1) Accept the return
2) The item goes back through authenticity
3) Block the Buyer https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock
4) Report the buyer for misusing the Money Back Guarantee here, if appropriate: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/reporting-issue-buyer?id=4084
5) Issue a refund
6) Appeal the case to eBay
