it got a whopping 8 views and 1 bid !

Did you use a different eBay ID? (Which is perfectly legal, by the way.)
Many sellers would be thrilled to list an item, see that eight people viewed it, and one person liked it well enough to buy it.
eBay doesn't promise you'll get rich when you sell anything on eBay.
eBay doesn't even promise that your listed item(s) will actually sell.
You are also aware, I hope, that you chose the percentage you will pay to eBay for "promoting" your listings.
It doesn't make sense to call the promotional/advertising fee a "rip off" when you chose to pay it.
