Auction Bidding Today
I was going to bid on an auction but today I was asked to give payment info to cut down on auction non payments. I intended to use PayPal credit — PayPal was an option but not PayPal credit. What’s up? Anyone know?

OP2 years agoThank you for your informative answers. I do appreciate it. I probably search out the best purchase options on the basis of payment flexibility. It’s hard to beat zero percent financing for six months. I’d rather pay a tad more to a seller upfront than to a CC at current rates.

Mentor2 years agoYou are very welcome. It makes sense to take advantage of interest free financing and avoid paying credit card rates where possible.

OP2 years agoSo it’s the auction listings (seller) choice? I didn’t know that. It sure seems like it’s a eBay, across the board, thing. It was definitely a sudden thing. I use the PayPal no interest credit more times than not because of the nature of my buys. Without that choice? I won’t be buying to any degree that I have been. My pocketbook will probably be grateful, overall? I am not.

There is a setting in the seller's Buyer Requirements. When eBay added the option the default was to require a payment method (at least for those buyers that were part of the test program), but sellers have the option of unchecking the box and not requiring a payment method for either offers or bids.

OP2 years agoIt’s essentially taking me out of auction opportunities. I’m a great customer for both companies. I guess my auction days are over?

Mentor2 years agoNot every seller requires immediate payment for auctions, so you still may have opportunities to bid on items and to pay with PayPal credit if you win.
But the number of sellers requiring immediate payment is likely to increase over time, so you may want to consider alternative payment methods going forward.
Possibly eBay will add additional payment options for auctions and offers in the future as well.

Mentor2 years agoApparently PayPal credit is not an option for bids or offers that require a payment method in advance. There may be problems with eBay putting a reversible payment hold on such a payment that prevent its use in that way.
