Attracting potential buyers…
I recently saw an antique item sell for a very good price and, because I have an item nearly identical to it that I want to sell, I wondered if there’s any way to alert those bidders that an item is available like the one they previously bid on (but lost). With eBay, timing is critical. If you aren’t constantly monitoring for a particular item you can easily miss something you might want to bid on. Any ideas? Thank you.

There is not way to do what you want to do ... however, I do have some good advice for listing things Auction style.
-You can have 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 day Auction durations. for the most exposure use the 10 day auction starting on a Wednesday or Thursday evening, this means the Auction will END on a Saturday or Sunday and give you two weekends of exposure. Please note that the 1 & 3 day durations come with a $ 1.00 Special Duration fee.
-The starting bid price should be the least amount you are willing to sell the item for and cover cost, eBay fees and your profit margin.
-I do NOT use the Buy it now feature on Auctions, that price has to be at least 30% higher than the starting bid price.
-NEVER use the Reserve price, eBay charges you a fee for that whether the item sells or not.
-You can also offer Local Pick up if you think it might sell to someone within reasonable driving distance to you and they can save on shipping costs.
