Asking to be paid by venmo
The seller is asking to be paid by Venmo outside of the eBay system. Is this a scam? Is this OK? It feels kind of scam. I can’t get any help directly from eBay so I thought I would try this chat.

Mentor2 weeks agoA lot will depend on if the sale had a shipping charge or if it was a local pick up sale. For a sale with shipping you need to pay through eBay to prevent a scam. If this is a local pick up item then you can either pay through eBay or pay when you pick up the item by a method acceptable to the seller.

No, it's not OK. You pay through eBay checkout and can use any accepted payment method shown. The seller will not know how you paid - only whether you paid.
It could be a scam or it could be a new seller who didn't take time to learn how to set up his managed payments through eBay.
Let the seller know you will pay through eBay checkout as required and if he has questions about how to set up managed payments, he can come here to this board for help.
