Asking card info before bid. Defeats using PayPal where merchant does not get info. No more bidding possible for me!
I was going to bid on ebay and pay with PayPal like before. Now it won't let you use PayPal unless I give them all card details that they put in their files. This defeats the whole purpose of PayPal where no merchant including eBay gets any of your card info.. They have had data breaches before.
Now, I can't bid on items again!
Losing alot of sales by doing this. Now I only buy if they sell it outright, no more bidding and waiting.

Sellers NEVER get card information. We no longer even get your email address.
You are specifying to PayPal which card to use.
eBay will charge PayPal, and paypal wants to know which of your several payment methods to use.

OP2 weeks agoWhat it sounds like is eBay is getting card info and store it on their computer for future trans. I don't want them to have it either.

Mentor2 weeks agoThe seller has opted into auto-pay. ebay offered this to try and decrease unpaid transactions. For sellers who opt into auto-pay for auctions and Best Offers (if accepted), the buyer will be charged 1 hour after the auction ends or if the Best Offer is accepted. I do not believe the seller gets your card info. I think only Managed Payments gets your card info, which is encrypted.

I share your reluctance to allow a seller access to my credit card information and authorization to charge against it. And, like you, I would refuse to provide it, backing out of such any prerequisite for placing a bid in an auction.
The things I usually buy are BIN, and I have had only one experience of having to provide payment information prior to bidding. I did continue, and did place a bid, therefore I did not have to provide credit card information.
I didn't know at the time that I would want to recall specificities of that experience, but I can assure you with every fiber of my being that I did not give any credit card info. Therefore, there must have been a PayPal option.
