Are promoted listings more helpful for unique, or common items?

I'm selling a unique and beautiful 19th century American Volunteers silverplate goblet/target practice award. Although I've had quite a bit of interest, and bids, on Ebay, I'd like to be reaching a wider market. Any advice on what to do in a similar situation?

They might be beneficial in highly saturated categories opposed to unique and one off items. If you are 1 of a 1000 Sellers selling a Red Widget then they may help you with increased visibility. BUT, if you are only 1 of 5 Sellers with the very rare and unique BLUE & WHITE STRIPED Widget then they are a complete waste of money.
