Anyone else seen the Ebay advice on buying cars re: holding deposits?
Ebay says that they recommend that anyone buying a car on Ebay should contact them FIRST.
Ebay says that they have a facility to take holding deposits to 'reserve' a vehicle.
I have not seen these on their listing pages, I am wondering if anyone else has.
What steps should Ebay be taking to protect buyers from illegal fraudsters?

This sounds like a SCAM.
Did you find this car on facebook or another platform?
If so, cease communication, they wants your contact information to scam you.

Mentor2 weeks agoIf you found the vehicle on any other site, FB CL, or any other, it is not a legit eBay listing. eBay does not have anything to do with those listings. eBay does not have a warehouse where they store vehicles. Be very careful, lots of scams out there.

Mentor3 weeks agoWhere are you seeing this? There is a way to purchase and pay for a vehicle that provides a lot of protection but takes time to complete the transaction. I have never heard that eBay wants you to contact them first and I have never heard of them reserving a vehicle for any user.

OP3 weeks agoThank you for your response. That is interesting, may I ask how did you find out about how to buy a car safely?
Ebay have told me that one should contact them first before entering negotiations with a vehicle seller, but I can find anywhere where this advice is publicly available.
