Anyone actually got a refund for fabricated crooked charges by FEDEX claiming pkg much larger than it actually was??????
Summary: rosemary6525 expressed frustration over being charged an extra fee by FedEx after their package was measured incorrectly, resulting in an overcharge. They shared that eBay customer service initially promised a refund but later delayed the process. comics-scifi-collectibles responded by explaining FedEx's practices regarding dimensional weight surcharges and recommended using alternative shipping methods like USPS or UPS for non-standard packages. Another participant questioned and corrected a statement about box dimensions. The discussion continued with a focus on surcharges by USPS, clarifying the difference between dimensional surcharges and those based on package length.
More than a month ago, FEDEX claim a 2.5 inch tall package was 4" YES 4 That pushed the dimensional total over and I got robbed of $11 I have photos of package and it is not close. I have spoken to THREE ebay customer service rep and ALL said I would getting a refund. Each pushed date back and now they is telling me up to 29 business days for refund. BTW a fairly knowledgeable rep said it was an automated process for sorting. SO basically FEDEX set their sorting machines to ADD to the size of packages to bump up profits. Sort of like a gas pump that gives you .9 gallons instead of a true gallon I am beginning to wonder if they are just blowing me off and I AIN'T GETTIN NUTHIN

Mentor1 week ago · Edited@rosemary6525 Fed Ex does add a surcharge for non standard packaging. What were the actual dimensions and weight? Keep in mind that customer service only files the claim, it is up to Fed Ex if they approve it or not.
That sounds like a dimensional weight surcharge, shipping prices are charged based on the package size not just weight and distance to the buyer. Keep in mind that the dimensions printed on a box are for the INSIDE so be sure to measure carefully and round up to the next full inch.
Only eBay customer service can file a dispute since they are the Fed Ex customer. I recommend contacting CS on social media to ask them to do this. Keep in mind that Fed Ex does sometimes add incorrect surcharges but there are CORRECT surcharges that you can read about on the Fed Ex website.
Personally if I have an item that is too large or heavy to ship via USPS then I use UPS and buy the label from Pirateship. Pirateship helps with insurance claims and surcharge disputes. UPS does have a list of valid surcharges on their website too. UPS does not add surcharges as often as Fed Ex does.
Social media is the best way to contact customer service for this issue.
Here's how to contact eBay general customer service. ( I feel that it's ok to use this option since it does affect your bottom line.)
Click this link> https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold?id=4814
Then Type PAYOUT In the chat bot box on the lower right.
Then AGENT after the bot responds. You might have to repeat those steps.
Or you can also contact customer service by sending a PRIVATE message on social media. Customer service verifies your identity before responding.

Keep in mind that the dimensions printed on a box are for the OUTSIDE.
I think you meant the INSIDE, not outside.

OP1 week agopretty sure it was 27x12x3 the 3 was actually closer to 2.5 They changed the 2.5 to 4 which changed the dimensional pricing
the package was a tennis racket sandwiched between 2 pieces of cardboard it was not round bizarre in shape but actual reason for additional charge was the size after almost doubling the height

Mentor1 week agoThis is why a surcharge was added in addition to the dimensional weight surcharge. This is considered a non standard shipping method. Fed Ex and UPS require the boxes to be squarish so that the items go through the automated system without requiring human assistance.
You would have been better off shipping it USPS ground advantage as there would not be a dimensional weight surcharge for this package size.
No Dimensional Weight Penalty: USPS only applies dimensional weight to Ground Advantage if the package volume exceeds 1,728 cubic inches. Since your box is 972 cubic inches (12 × 27 × 3) it ships at the actual weight. However there is a $4.50 surcharge due to the length.

OP1 week agothere is a SURCHARGE at USPS any package over 24" has a surcharge you did not know this? U may have shipped and gotten away but there is a surcharge and USPS always much higher

Mentor1 week ago@rosemary6525 Surcharges fall in to two categories... dimensional based on cubic inches if over 1728 AND package length. I did say there is a $4.50 surcharge with USPS due to the length. Very glad I sold my posters years ago before this started.
