An all-too-easy scam being perpetrated on buyers by illegitimate sellers. ebay asleep at the wheel.
It works like this: You purchase an item and pay for it. The seller "creates a UPS shipping label" and is given a tracking number by UPS before they ever pick the item up. The seller reports the item as "shipped" and provides the tracking number. As far as ebay is concerned, the item is in transit.
There will never be any tracking updates, because the item is never given to UPS or shipped at all. But the buyer has to keep waiting and waiting and waiting to "prove" that and try to get his or her money back. Time is the thief's ally since they can continue scamming many more people in the meantime.
The previous thief went a step farther when I contacted them to ask why there were zero tracking updates. They immediately responded with a canned message saying "they are glad I received my item", gaining themselves even more time as I challenged them to prove it was ever actually shipped, much less "delivered" .
Since no "estimated delivery date" was ever established (because the carrier never received the package) the item is in transit (forever?) as far as ebay is concerned and they provide the buyer with no expedient recourse or way to file for a refund and report the seller. There seem to be no actual humans running ebay anymore. "Wanna chat with our AI robot so we can add frustration and insult to your financial injury?"
After being suckered for the 2nd time by this ongoing scam in just a couple weeks, I'm asking everyone I know on social media to share this warning about buying on ebay until ebay does something about these thieves who, at worst, simply open yet another fraudulent seller account and keep right on scamming people.
In both cases, the fake "sellers" have been located in "sanctuary cities" being literally overrun with tens of thousands of illegal alien invaders using "free" phones and taxpayer money to set up such scams and accounts. So be extra careful when any item is located in or near these terrible cities and "communication" is in grammatically incorrect "english-as-a-second-language" chinglish.
