Am I being scammed by buyer?
I sold a tail light for my one of my cars. The listing is accurate. The pictures are of the actual product. Product was not damaged and the listing pictures show it was not. Buyer purchased it and I sent it USPS Ground Advantage 8/7 and it was delivered 8/14. Tracking number was updated when I purchased the label. Today, 9/8, I receive a message from buyer saying the product is damaged and he is forced to dispute it with ebay. He included two pictures. One shows the broken tail light (which differs from the listing). The other is a picture of the label from the box. The label has a tracking number for USPS International Priority mail and not the tracking number or label I sent on the box. The label is in a different language and references Ukraine. I checked the tracking number on the order and it is USPS Ground Adv and was delivered from my address to his with two stops - all within the US. He did not ask for a return. I asked him for additional pictures of the product, including the serial number. I asked for pictures of the box to verify it was the box I sent and that there are no other labels that may have been attached to it after leaving my posession. I also use a specific kind of tape and box. So I am trying to understand if this is actually the product I sent basically. If it were damaged it had to be in transit or by the buyer. USPS Ground Adv has a 100$ insurance on it so I am trying to understand so I can go that route if or when the product is returned to me. I say if or when because he also told me, when I asked for pictures, that he left it with the carrier. So I am not even sure where the product is at this point and it sounds like I am not going to get the pictures I requested. My return policy on the listing is the standard 30 days, buyer pays. He has 100% rating as a buyer and I checked his history and it seems he buys from auto stores on ebay often. Part of me wonders if he is mixing my order up with another and I am trying my best to give this buyer the benefit of my doubt but it is really difficult considering the discrepancies - including not contacting me until almost 3 weeks after it was delivered. He has 250+ 100% buyer rating so there is that also.
I am looking for advice on how to handle this. Also, when does the clock start ticking on the return period? Is it the date it was delivered or the date of the sale? If it was date of sale, it is day 31. If it is date of delivery he is within the return period.
Also, what if he returned the product to me and the serial number does not match and it is not the product I sent him originally?
Thanks in advance.
