Am I being scammed?
Hello. For about 3 months I've had 2 listings on eBay. Each listing is for a collectable book. Yesterday I received a sale notification for one of the books and about 5 hours later received a sale notification for the other.
The buyers for the first one had a user name that was the first 3 letters from their last name, followed by 5 random numbers. They gave me a Texas shipping address. The second buyer had a user name that was the first 3 letters from their first name, followed by 5 random numbers and they gave me a Vermont shipping address. When I searched the phone numbers given, however, the numbers come back to the persons in question.
I looked on each buyers profiles and turns out each opened their profile yesterday, 10/2/25. Neither profile shows any feedback or previous yesterday. They're just blank profiles.
Ebay is saying they received payment but I'm smelling something wrong here. I'm going to try and talk to eBay directly but wanted thoughts from the community. I'm supposed to ship these books today but something doesn't seem right

OP10 months agoThank you. I talked to eBay's customer support and you're correct about the usernames.
I ended up calling both buyers and the first buyer was completely legit and was more than happy to confirm the purchase and thanked me for my due diligence. The second second buyer, however, claimed I had the wrong number and denied knowing the buyer. After we hung up moments later the second buyer canceled the transaction claiming they found the book at a cheaper price elsewhere.

·10 months agoCalling your buyers to confirm the order is legitimate is not recommended procedure and would be concerning to me if I was your buyer. I would recommend you simply ship orders to the address shown on the order, instead of taking unusual steps like that.

Mentor11 months agoThose usernames sound like they are Guests, which is why they don't have any feedback. If ebay says they have paid, then you ship. Make sure you select a service that has tracking.
